Q&A WITH MASTER TILE FIXER STEPHEN WAGSTAFF

How did you get into the tiling industry?
I was in landscaping then by chance I helped a tiler out on a SPAR floor and enjoyed it. The rest is history.

What do you like most about your job?
Customer satisfaction.

Why did you become a member of The Tile Association?
For me it’s the benefits of being part of a governing body.

What region do you work in?
The whole of the UK.

What types of installations do you provide?
High-end residential.

What changes have you experienced since becoming a Master Tile Fixer?
Not so much in the last few months, except maybe more contractors tendering for the same project. In the past 10 years there has been a massive change in the tiling industry and a lot of the changes have been more positive, giving the independent fixer more control over works.

What tiling project are you most proud of?
I’m really proud of all of them although I have more satisfaction with the customers who really needed the help.

What is the most valuable lesson you have learnt on the job?
Slow down.

What is the best advice you have been told or would like to share for anyone entering the industry?
Don’t chase the money. If you love what you and do the best, all the rest will fall into place.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Camping, walking, festivals, family time.
